About the Department

Where are you headed after college? Learning a foreign language will take you places!

With today's global economy, one of the most marketable skills in the job market is proficiency in a foreign language. You'll be better able to interact with others, and you'll gain a broader appreciation of foreign cultures and traditions.

Washington College offers majors in French Studies, German Studies, Hispanic Studies, and International Languages and Cultures. You can take additional classes in Arabic, Japanese, and Italian.

Your language study can help you in nearly every discipline, including film, art, music, drama, literature, history, philosophy, political science, economics, and business. The Department of Foreign Languages, Literatures, and Cultures will help you prepare for your role in the world after college, whatever, and wherever, that might be.
