Research and Teaching Interests
Professor Pears primarily studies francophone women writers from former French colonies. In particular, she has focused on Algerian and Vietnamese women and their depictions of women's wartime roles in their fictitious representations of Wars for Independence in both countries. More recently, she has been working on a study of book covers representing images of Algerian women and the ways in which these covers have an impact on the marketing and reception of literary texts in both France and the United States.
Professor Pears regularly teaches all levels of French language, literature, and culture and enjoys helping students gain linguistic and cultural proficiency.
